Dominican Republic
Where the Next Chapter Took Shape

In 2009, Ernesto and his children established a new factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Originally called Tabacalera La Alianza, that factory became Casa Carrillo, the production home at the center of the modern company. Casa means home, a fitting idea for a factory the company describes as the place where its cigars, collaborations, and family legacy come together.

Miami
Where the Tradition was Rebuilt

After leaving Cuba, the family rebuilt in Little Havana. Ernesto Jr. eventually took over El Credito and transformed La Gloria Cubana from a local Miami cigar into one of the defining brands of the early 1990s cigar boom.

A Legacy That Had to be Rebuilt.

The Perez Carrillo family's cigar story begins in Cuba, where Ernesto Perez Carrillo Sr. learned tobacco from his father and purchased the El Credito factory in Havana in 1948. The Cuban Revolution changed everything, forcing the family to leave its business and home behind and rebuild in Miami.

In Little Havana, Ernesto Sr. returned to cigar making while his son, Ernesto Jr., initially pursued a completely different path: jazz. Ernesto eventually returned to Miami, joined his father at El Credito, and realized in 1976 that cigar making was where he belonged. When his father died in 1980, Ernesto took control of the struggling factory and began building the career that would eventually make La Gloria Cubana a nationally recognized name.

After selling El Credito in 1999 and later leaving General Cigar, Ernesto began again in 2009, this time alongside his children, Ernesto III and Lissette. That next chapter ultimately became the company now known as Casa Carrillo.

The Carrillo story is not about preserving one moment in time. It is about carrying the craft forward every time circumstances changed.

What Makes them Different?

A Family House That Keeps Evolving.

Family Continuity

The company combines Ernesto's blending experience with the involvement of Ernesto III and Lissette, allowing the operation to remain family led while continuing to evolve.

Tobacco First

Casa Carrillo is not built around tobacco from one farm. The company sources leaf from growers and suppliers, then evaluates, ferments, ages, and blends tobacco according to what each leaf contributes. Ernesto's stated philosophy is that every tobacco has its own character and must be treated differently.

Experience Without One Formula

Decades of blending experience have not produced one Casa Carrillo flavor profile. The portfolio deliberately moves across different wrappers, countries, strengths, and cigar formats.

Open to Collaboration

Casa Carrillo also works with other manufacturers when the project calls for it.
Allegiance, for example, combines Ernesto's blending with Oliva's Nicaraguan tobaccos and production capabilities.
